Thursday 7/2
Hi all- Sorry for the delay on posting any Maine fishing reports. A long story short is we are having one of the wettest Junes on record here in Casco Bay. I have been on the water everyday we can manage to get out. Early to mid June before all the bad weather set in we where seeing good numbers of stripers showing up in the bay and the fishing was very good with lots stripers to fly fish to in shallow water. More bait around then I have seen in years and the fish are eating well and look healthy and heavy. The only draw back to the amount of bait in the system is that the fishing is good early mornings when the fish are getting thier fill for the day and has shut down around 9AM for the most part so we are doing well early and then picking up a few fish here and there later in the mornings. Most of the stripers have been between 24"-34" with some big fish mixed in and more showing up as we get into June.
Problem is the unsettled weather...with low pressure systems getting stuck here for days on end. The fish are in places but 1 day they are on the bite and the next difficult to catch. We need some steady good weather patterns and the fish will get into mode and feed on a regular basis on different parts of tide.
So right now it's get out early when you can and be on them when they are eating !! Here's hoping for a better July weather wise.
